Driving Miss Daisy video... '52 F4

I found this just surfing the net. I enjoyed it thoroughly, although I'm a little prejudiced toward the F4... You may have viewed it already, since it's a year old. But I just found it.

It's a nice truck, and he has most of his facts straight. Other than the comment about the 5 speed (which he later corrects) and the widow maker "suicide" wheels being desirable on a vintage truck, it's most enjoyable.

I thought electric wipers were standard in 51 and 52. But I guess they were still an option?

The electric wipers were an option in 53 and 54 also... and probably later too.

From what I remember, electric wipers were optional on 51, but stock on 51 Extra. Also should be stock an ALL 52, whether Extra or not.

I just parted out a 52 F3, however, that was an Extra cab and it had the dual vacuum wipers. May have been replacements for the electric wipers that broke...??

Cool video-- thanks for sharing. He mentioned the flathead V8 was also used in the Ford 8N tractor, is that true? I guess I thought they were mostly 6s or 4s in the tractors.

Well, that's a 52 Extra cab, and he says he has vacuum wipers?

Yes, I thought they were all 6's, but I know very little about tractors. I don't remember ever seeing a tractor with a V8. But I just did a Google search on them, and saw 4 cyl, 6 cyl and one with a 302. I doubt the 302 was stock...

The Ford N series tractors came with the four cylinder 119 CID flathead engine. Funk aircraft company developed the kit that adapted Ford flathead V8s as well as the flathead six cylinder engine to the N series tractor. There have been many different engines adapted to the Ford N series tractors.

Click here for some neat Ford tractor pictures. This guy has a neat Ford PU, also.

Thanks Ray. I had no idea.

I told my wife a few months ago that I'd like to have a tractor like that. Her immediate response was "Why?" I couldn't really answer that. I have no place to keep it, and nothing to use it for.

But I'd like to have an old tractor like that...

Joe, a loading dock or ramps and the tractor would fit right up on Betsy's flatbed

Same here. We had a 48 8N on our farm when I was a kid and it would be a chance to relive childhood memories. But I too have no place to keep it and no use for it in town.

I think most of us guys that have old trucks (the ones that are pretty much stock) have a gentleman farmer attitude deep down inside...

To be honest Bill, I never thought to look in the Parts Catalog for the wiper motor info... Yup, that's a bad one. But after seeing your post, I went right there and found it on page 755.

I'm curious about why you attached the rating plate page. I don't see anything in this post about that. What am I missing?

And, it looks like you're only about 40 miles away. So, one of these days...
