Windshield Wipers

I am in search of a windshield wiper setup. My truck currently has none at all. It's a 52 F-1. What is out there that would work for this? Do I need to pretty much go stock replacement or is there a wiper motor out there that will work for my truck and is easier found? thanks

I put the one from MACS in my 51F1. No problem without the stock radio. Keep us posted and good luck Tim

In 52, Ford replaced the vacuum windshield wiper motor with an electric motor. Is your truck 6 volts still? If so, then you'll need the 6V motor from any 52 truck.

I just parted out my 52 F6 and have that motor and the entire linkage assembly. PM if interested. I will have to double check to make sure that it works.

I have a '54, fully stock f100 that my grandad bought new and passed down to me. It is important to me that I keep it original. This truck has vacuum wipers. Are you sure about those dates, or was it possibly an option. I have no reason to believe that my trucks vacuum wipers are not stock.

Just looking for a little enlightenment.

Back on subject, there is a company in Ca that rebuilds the stock vacuum wiper motors (I had mine rebuilt), they may have some parts, and I see 6v and 12v on ebay from time to time.

Well, it's currently on six volts. but I probably won't be doing anything with it until this summer at the earliest. I just like to get my wish list together in case Christmas should happen to come early or I win the lottery or something. So, would a wiper motor out of a 52 bus work? What do prices run on a reman or replacement? I've also thought about converting to 12 volts. Would I need to also find a 12 volt wiper or just reduce the available voltage to the wiper motor? Are there any advantages in having a vacuum wiper over an electrical or vice versa? Thanks for the replies by the way.

IMHO go electric. I ran a 6 v electric in my 49 with a 12v to 6v reducing resister. The new 12v setups should be great but they are on the pricey side. I modified an old VW 12v setup but it is a good thing that I did not have to pay by the hour!

I'm not afraid to do a little modifying. What did you get your VW wiper out of?

Both the VW and Saab 99's (early 80's) used a version of the old British cable-drive system. The Saab has almost exactly the right spacing for a '52. You're on your own figuring out where to mount the motor, the cable bends enough that you can move it around to a spot that has a mounting surface (can't bend too much tho).

The electric wipers were an option in '52. It was a pretty sorry system IMHO, no parts are available that I am aware of, and the parking switch setup is a real POS. Personally I intend to adapt a modern gearbox to the linkage and arms from the '52 electric wipers.

I just modified it last winter but unfortunately, it was something that I picked up years ago and I do not know.

Check in the Tech Articles. There's one on wiper mods. I'm putting a unit from a early 90's Cherokee in my 52.
