column shifter

Does anyone know where I can get the column shifter for a 56 f 100? The po had switched to a floor shifter and I'd like to switch back to the column shifter.

Thanks for any help!
Scott

Column Shifter

Scott - Will one out of a 54 work for you? I just installed a T-5 and am ready to pull the column shifter out. Ken

Hi Ken

I think it would. Let me know what you want for it! I've
had a tough time finding one.

Thank you!

The original steering column in the '56 is shorter than the '53-'55. I forget how much, but it's like an inch or so.

The '56 has the dished steering wheel, while the '53-'55 is almost flat.

Please don't hurt the messenger!

Column Shifter

Thanks ET - I'll just add that info to the long, long list of things I don't know about F100's but am learning on this forum.

Scott - If you decide you can modify it to fit, I'll bring it with me to the AutoFair in Charlotte next week. We have 4 spots in the Blue field that we've had for over 20 years. Ken

Not only is the steering column 1956 only, but so are the two shift rods that attach to the manual control selector levers on the column, then to the shift arms on the trans.

Attempting to locate these two 1956 shift rods might be almost impossible.

Hi guys

I just wanted to make sure I'm calling it the right thing. I just need the arm that comes out of the column. The one you actually hold while shifting. The column is fine, just missing the arm itself.

Thanks!

Ken I'll let you know if I can get out there. I work weekends and will be out of town during the week but may be able to get out there!

Oh, in that case the only real differences are the '56 has a slight bend in it (because of the dished steering wheel) and a long ****, while the '53-'55 is straight with a round ****.

The earlier handle will work, but it's going to be just a little further away from your steering wheel. About an inch or so.

Here is a side-by-side pic. The one with a steering wheel and straight shift lever is the '53, the one without and bent shift lever is the '56.

The '56 column isn't that much shorter, they're not lined up exactly. The difference is more like 1 3/4" to 2".
