Lessons Learned On HPOP & Fuel Bowl Rebuild

Well after 10 years I got the dreaded oil leak. After some simple green cleaning and some strategically placed towels in the valley I pinpointed the leak to somewhere under the fuel bowl.It was definitely oil and not diesel fuel and if you have to take everything apart you might as well replace all the O-rings. No problem I called Diesel O-rings and ordered all the O-Rings for the fuel bowl and HPOP and the also the non serviceable plug for the HPOP. I started the job early Friday morning and everything was going smoothly until I got to the bolts holding the HPOP. Now the lesson I learned was never, never, never use a 12 point socket on any bolts because if you do it will round the head right off of one of the bolts that hold the HPOP in. . After trying everything from a 3 point chisel to using a dremel tool and cutting a slot in the head and attempting to use a screwdriver, nothing... Just my luck, one freaking bolt wont come out. I ended up putting a 1/2" dia sanding tool on the dremel and spent the next 2 1/2 hours cursing bent over under the hood and sanding the head off the bolt. I guess after that bolt murphy had left my side and on the fuel bowl and HPOP o-ring replacement everything else went fairly smoothly.
Lesson Learned Never ever use 12 point sockets on anything a PSD!
Best part of it all I fixed it myself, saved a butt load of cash and no more leak!!

10-4 on the 6 point, local ford diesel shop here gave me hint about the 6-point.

Bought a couple sets of new craftsman box end on amazon.

Good job on the fix.

oh the fun of working on stuff.
FYI if you have a good mig welder you could welded a nut on the end of it.

I only use 12 point sockets on 12 point bolts.
Period.

Good to see everything else went smooth after that though.
