You are correct, oil temp. The one on the top is the EBPS. The IPR is down under the reservoir drivers side with the tin nut on it (unless it fell off).

Well did a couple of tests:

Started it in neutral hot with no difference

Also did the rev test: record it in neutral while hot and noticed a slight hesitation at 2000-2750 or so then catching at 3k. So maybe some injector orings are in my future.

My next question is how long can I go the way it is? Obviously yes I want to fix it but $$$$ are a little tight if you know what I mean. I know I need to prioritize, I'm not saying put it off in definatly, but is it somthing I could make it through winter with and do next spring? I know I'm getting way ahead of myself here but I'm just trying to prioritize.

It runs and drives fine for the moment, so maybe I should stop worrying so much and just drive the thing. Hasn't let me down yet!

I have a set of stock injectors that came out of Todd's truck when he bought Mikes set of stage 2s.
Todd can you chime in? If I recall they have 220k on them and ran fine? he only upgraded is why they were taken out.

We kind of played musical injector cores lol.
I had bought a set a while back for cores off CL just to have when I want to build mine. Well they have been used for other peoples builds and I still wind up with a good set of injectors! LOL

I'd be more than willing to let you swap in Todd's set of injectors for your 8. As long as I have a set of 8 cores at the end of the job im happy.

They are up at home still wrapped up in an oily box. I'd re o-ring em for good measure of course.

People on this forum rock! Good on ya Alex. I have been at the receiving end of the generosity on this forum and I am more than thankful.

That is very generous Alex! I'll see if I can get a o-ring kit. What kind of job is that? I've done a little reading, and I know enough to be dangerous, but I would like to have someone with me if I was going to tackle something like that.

I'm sure some lower mileage injectors defiantly wouldn't hurt it.

I'll try and send you some reps!

Could be as simple as a fuel flow / pressure issue.

On top of the hpop rez is the oil pressure switch for the dash gauge, back side of the hpop rez is oil temp, behind the hpop rez with the line running down is the EBPS. Just being a little more specific. I know you know this.

Agreed. Idle problems can come from ICP issues whether it's being caused by a bad sensor or o-rings, fuel flow, slight compression loss on a couple cylinders, dirty injector nozzles, etc, etc, etc.... Lots of parts there capable of screwing with idle quality.

For example, I believe my slightly rough idle to be caused by two cylinders having 310-320psi compression while the other 6 have 350+psi.

Check idle fuel pressure, ICP, check compression while you're in there changing glow plugs, and if all that is ok, it probably wouldn't hurt to have an injector rebuild w/ new nozzles..

Also, I've noticed that every '94.5-'95 I've been in has idled a little bit rougher than '96-'97 trucks. I'm not sure why that might be unless it was just tuning updates, but something for those with early builds to think about.

Yeah sounds like I need to do more homework before I go condemning the injectors. Lots of useful information!

Another question: is there a specified interval of rebuilding injectors? Or is it more of an as needed thing?

Thanks for the correct, more defining description then I gave Tavis, LOL

Thomas, If a person changed his oil all the time, the injectors would last a long time. No intervals.

Glenn's right, no specific intervals on injector rebuilds. Usually they'll go around 280-300k miles before needing injector o-rings. Of course some go longer, some don't even go that long.. The injector internals purely depends on oil and fuel quality that has been run through them and that they haven't had any weird additives run through them. Just some good old lubricity additive in the fuel. With good oil going through them and good, clean fuel with no/minimal water in it, the injector internals should be ok for 300k miles. A lot need rebuilt more around 200-250k though.. The newer style plungers and barrels that are tungsten coated are more reliable than the P&Bs that came in our stock AA codes..
