sitting on the highway

powersteering pressure line gave out. Blew the fitting out the side of the pump. Got the half I could off to take to carquest. Now I'm waiting for the wife to feed the babies and come get me.

I'm sure glad there is a mechanical link between my wheel and wheels. Sorry for a pointless post but, I've run out of tools on board and parts to put on. :-(. Sure am wishing I had my tool box installed instead of my o shoot bag.

hope everyone is having a good morning.

at least you're not waiting for a tow truck!
when mine blew I drove it about 1 mile through Phoenix in rush hour traffic to the hotel I was staying at and than walked about a mile to autozone and got a new line and installed it in the hotel parking lot

The downside of a single serpentine belt. Y'know, serp belt systems should be designed so that all "non-essential" pulleys (everything but the crank, tensioner, alt and water pump) can go into "idler" mode, so that if whatever they're turning seizes up, you can still run the belt.

Hope it gets better bro! I was in the same boat a week ago Friday, with my wife and 2 year old, and a dead pedal. had to idle home for 3 miles....not fun or safe, but got home.

I drove for a couple weeks without any power steering fluid when I busted the gearbox seal. The pump never did lock up and is still on there today. I tried to do that on my s10 and it locked up within a day.

true, thankfully these old fords don't ask for much. There were a couple German autos that got towed within a few miles of mine. Bad morning to be on the highway.

has anyone had issues with the pressure line leaking at the p/s gearbox? i've ended up buying a set of crowfoot flare nut wrenches. i torqued it down pretty good. (i'm 6' 220lbs with a 3/8 ratchet).

it's just a flare fitting right, not something that looks like it but requires an o ring or something? i was topping of every morning, 50 miles. and every where i park there is a dinner plate sized leak. i'm tired of refilling.

Mine had a little plastic white O ring that was laying in the bottom of the box. I almost missed it.

At the gearbox mine was just straight but at the pump there was a little o-ring. I did have to go back and re-seal the pump side with some plumbers tape. I had a fair drip going until I put that on there. You might try the same thing on yours. Also, I would undo the bigger fitting next to it and move it out of the way then get a line wrench on the smaller one so you can use the leverage better. just my opinion though. Crow wrenches never seem to work as well as i want them to.
