A while back, my OD light on the shift stalk would blink when I toggled the OD off. It seemed to behave fine, but the light would blink when the OD was off. After awhile, it quit blinking when OD is locked out, but the light doesn't light anymore. Any ideas? I'm figuring there's an electrical/sensor problems somewhere, and would like to track it down.

More than likely the problem is in the shift stalk.
I saw something about how to fix it in a thread on a site somewhere years ago.
But I can not remember where.

 

Does it blink like it's out of control? or does it have a frequency to it?. If it's the first then all you probably need to do is to replace the O/D button in the lever, it's quite an easy task.

 

It's been some time since it was blinking, but can't remember if it was sporadic or a regular pattern. It's been completely out for a few months. Like the bulb is burned out. Are the new buttons available from Ford?

I found a new OEM Ford on Amazon, so far I'm satisfied with the results. Buy the plastic ring for the top of the lever too, since the tiny legs in the original one are easily broken.
