2002 F250 4wd wont engage

I have a 2002 f250 that I can not get the 4wd to engage. When I select 4wd I can hear the transfer case engage. When I put it in drive the front drive shaft begins to turn but the axle shafts do not turn. Is there anything that is suppose to move in the diff to engage the axle shafts? Im at a lost. Any info is appreciated.

Could be a broken axle shaft or something inside the diff went boom. Nothing moves inside the axle on a superduty. It has vacuum accuated hubs if they're the auto/lock ones and the transfer case is all that moves when engaging 4wd.

Yup

I'd check vacuum lines, hubs, shafts, carrier...In that order

Im thinking it must b something in the diff because with the 4wd not engaged and hubs unlocked, I can turn the drive shaft and the axles shafts will not turn.

Not real sure. Went to pull boat out at lake and when I went forward the front driveshaft was turning but the axle shafts were not turning. I was not at a boat ramp so I was stuck. Never heard a pop or anything. Not real familiar with diffs. I guess the first thing I will do is remove diff cover and c if anything is obvious.
