Looking at a 2013

Well I have started thinking it is time to trade the old girl in, I have a 2010 FX4 and have been looking at the 2013's but the dealer cant answer one question for me. I want the HIDS headlights but what lumens are the 2013's coming out with? I want at least 5000 lumens or else I am not going to get them from Ford and will get aftermarket ones.
Can anyone answer this for me?

I have a 2013 F150 FX4 with the HID headlights...but I don't know the lumens. I will say they are by far the best lights I've ever had. The low beam is focused very well and I can see better than my old '89 with high beams. The high beams look like a set of off road lights, but they have a bit too narrow of a beam pattern. I was up in the mountains at night last weekend and it was hard to see around some of the corners with the brights on. I could see straight ahead very well but I could have used a set of fog lights to flood the edges of the road more.

That's my biggest complaint with Ford F150's is the lights. My 2010 was a joke at night and in my opinion dangerous for as much light they gave off. That's why I went with aftermarket HIDS and I don't regret one second of it. I am just wondering how the HIDS from Ford compares to aftermarket and if the Ford ones are 5000 lumens or not.

Remeber that just comparing lumens is not the only way to tell if a light will do a good enough job. The beam pattern is just as important. If the light is not disperced well then it doesn't matter if there is more available. I haven't used any aftermarket HID lights so I can't compare.

Maybe you can get a sealesman at a dealership to come by late and take a test drive in the dark. Just tell him it will make or break the deal.

Here is an article on the HID headlights...they say are 100% mercury free!

BTW I LOVE my HID bulbs...another reason I chose the 2013 platinum. (yes I know it was offered on other trim models as well as an add on)

Weird, as I have zero issues with the plain old standard XLT lights on my 2011. I even like the output I get from the OE fogs. I'm also a 2wd so perhaps the slight difference in ride height??

I may have to do the test drive at night to check them out. If they don't match the ones I have now then I will have to go with aftermarket ones. I am surprised Ford doesn't offer specs on wattage and lumens on their HIDS though.

I just bought the F150 FX2 Sport Ecoboost. Best truck I've ever owned. The lights are very bright but the pattern is a bit narrow. They throw a nice "V" shape that is bright, far, and low (so as not to blind the person in front of me), but they don't do much for illuminating the edges or corners. My Benz had great side lights that activated the moment you turned past a few degrees on way or another. If I could figure a way to do this, they would be perfect. Oh, yeah, the highs are brilliant.

Let me put it to you this way...they are plenty bright and work well. They do tend to cup at the edges...meaning they do not go straight out to the sides but that is not a big deal to me because they are plenty bright. My wife has HID bulbs in her G37 and they are just as bright as them.
