Tilting the cab

I recently purchased a 1988 Ford/Boardman pumper fire truck.

I am not having any luck getting the cab to release/tilt.

There is some sort of foot release underneath and just to the rear of the passenger door. There is a latch at the back of the cab behind the passenger door, along with a jack that doesn't seem to do anything, regardless of how much you pump, or where you set the release ****.

If I raise the lever up, stepping on the foot release snaps it back down.

Help?

On my '65 C600 there is a level that "locks" the cab down, and two pull handles that release the primary latch and the safety latch. Lower pull releases the primary latch, upper pull releases the safety and allows the cab to tilt up.

What type of cab does your pumper truck have?

You didn't say what series of this truck this is.

I would assume it's a C Series Tilt Cab, but there's more than just one type of these cabs using three different types of locking mechanisms.

Post the VIN so I can determine which tilt cab and locking mechanism you have. The following is one of three.

1980/89 C/CT600/900:

With a hydraulic pump/jack methinks this is an extended cab tilt cab. Standard tilts did not have a pump, right?

I just joined because i bought a 1978 Ford C800 flatbed truck from a client that was retiring from his family's 100 year old steel fab business. when i first started reading the threads i noticed how many posts you have and i just want to thank you for all that you do because a lot of your posts are awesome that I've read.

if you have time can you tell me the details of my truck either here so i can learn how to tilt the cab or over on the thread i started that was moved to large trucks?

thank you and here's my VIN #

Also do i need a CDL to drive my truck in Washington state if i change the GVW to under 26,001 even though it has air brakes?
