2013 F150 Platinum Drivetrain Vibration

Dodge as been having some of the same issues. Try going to some of the other truck forums and reaading a bit. I think pretty much every manufacturer has had an issue at some point.

This is a weird one I have read about for sometime. I too own a 2013 157" wheel base crew cab..... and I have no vibration. Loaded to the point of being overloaded to empty the truck just rides like any other truck I have owned. It's funny as my mother has a 157" screw in the 2014 variety and it too does not vibrate.
Shudder on the other hand on take off is a totally different ballgame. Mine axle wraps so damn bad I broke my drivers side axle shaft in the rear end. I bought Cal-Tracs to fix my issues and just haven't installed them as I taking this truck for it's last kick at the can for warranty on the a/c...... another known problem Ford hasn't dealt with. After that it's time for my heads, cams, headers, rear diff rebuild and cal tracs to go on so Ford will be off the radar for me. That said a person shouldn't have to live with any vibration. I know indexing a 2 piece is important as is pinion and carrier bearing angle. You would have to go beyond any Ford dealer to find some resolution on whether or not anything there could be done as Ford won't have the tools or knowledge in their service departments to figure out if that's an issue or not. I mean yeah they could..... but they aren't a driveline shop setup to check balance.
One thing I think compounding a lot of the shudder is shock placement...... it wouldn't hurt to have the shocks offset like every other truck I have had. My 05 Sierra is crew cab 6.5' box truck with a 2 piece shaft and it will axle wrap a bit if I make it do it but not like this Ford. It also has way heavier leaf springs and offset shocks which help dramatically. The leaf springs in these F150's are very flimsy.....I also own a 2013 supercab ( both my trucks are 7700 GVW 6.2 powered trucks) and it axle wraps pretty bad too..... just less noticeable as it has over 1000 lbs loaded in the bed at all times.

I have the same problem with my 2014 Screw 6.5 4x4 Eco. Been fighting Ford for two months now and had them finally tell me this past Tuesday that its an acceptable characteristic of the vehicle. I am so disappointed, I had this same issue with my 02 F350 and I was just about ready to go back to a Ram as my previous ones did not have this problem. Test drove the Ecoboost and it changed my mind. If I only knew then what I know now I would have never made the purchase. It blows mind mind that Ford has been making trucks with drivetrain issues for 15yrs now and refuses to do anything about it.

The issue seems to be with 2009 to 2015 F150 usually long wheel base crew cab 6.5 ' bed. The suspension is to light and poorly engineered. After months of getting no where with Ford (new drive shafts, upgraded trans mount, changing tires and wheels and changing pinion angle at both rear end and carrier bearing) I ended up resolving the issue with air bags. Run 5 lbs with no tow and dial the pressure in for your particular towing need. Ford could not make up there mind if it was a 'known issue' or there was 'no issue'. Either way they would not or could not fix it. I have bought dozens of Ford Truck but since they would not make good on this one it will be my last.

I have owned my F150, EcoBoost, supercrew, 4X4, with a 6.5' bed, for approximately 2 months. When I took delivery, I used the truck to haul 30 bags of shredded mulch.
After loading the bags of mulch in the bed, the truck "vibrates, shimmies, or shakes" when taking off. This happens between 0 to 10 mph and then seems to smooth off.
I took the truck back to my dealer, with the bags of mulch loaded in the bed, and the service manager was able to duplicate the issue. He supposedly contacted Ford and was told this is a known issue, and from my research has been a know issue for a number of years.
The following week, I had a custom painted tonneau cover installed by LEER, weight approximately 120lbs, and the truck still has the vibration with only that additional weight.
Does Ford have a fix because this is very annoying with a $54,000 truck right from the dealer. I have about 1,100 miles on the truck now.

So this is an old thread. I have a 2013, Lariat with the same issue concerning the shudder. I presume no actual fix was ever found. I bought this truck to tow a camper with and unfortunately when I tow, the entire truck vibrates and like the rest of you, I don't particularly care for it. I'm looking at possibly trading it in unless some has better ideas to help point me in a better direction.
Before you trade your truck in, take it to a drivetrain shop. See how much they charge for a custom one piece aluminum one. I had one made for about $650. It solved all of my issues. Ford should have done this from the start. Mine drove like a dream after that even with a 6in lift and 35s while towing.

EDIT:
That solved the "slipping" or "shudder" feeling?

Yes, after that I never had another problem with “slipping” or “shudder” feeling. I’ll have to see if I can find a picture of it for you. I no longer have he 13 FX4, I have a 2017 XLT with a 5.5 bed now. Came stock with a one piece drive shaft.
