Question Need a door tapping plate

Does anybody know where I can find a door tapping plate? (see triangular part in the attached picture). I think that they are all the same. Can't even find a part number.

Easy enough to make your own, and with a more common thread than the NOS one.

Pete, you will have to make your own unless you can find somebody with some good used ones. They are not reproduced but should be fairly easy to make from some 1/4" flat stock.
All the bolts broke in the lower hinges in my '52 when I took them apart. I have had them soaking for 6 months and am about to try and get the broken studs, if I can't get them out then I will drill them out and carefully and re-tap them. If that doesn't work then I will make some new ones. Good luck!

Thanks Ross. But with my entire shop stashed back in the barn until my garage is done I was hoping to buy one so that I could finally get the right door on.

Where Ross is there has been almost no rain for most of the year, my brother lives in the valley on Los Ranchos Rd near 2nd. He told me that they have had less than an inch of rain since last October! Here in Houston we are sweltering too, high 90's and high humidity. Not to mention zillions of mosquitoes. That snow looks really good!! Petemcl, if you can't find one let me know because I am probably going to have to make at least one for me - it wouldn't be that hard to make another while I am at it.

Tinman, they are a bitch to get off. The lower ones are almost always corroded with lots of junk and moisture that gets into the door posts near the bottom over the years. When I took mine off with a hand impact 5 of the 6 bolts broke off, none of the top hinge bolts broke. The top ones are captured in the post, the bottom ones are loose.

I've probably got an extra one here somewhere? it might be snowing again before I find it though? Let me know and I can take a look for you.

if the donor cab is rusty in there, usually a large screwdriver wedged in between the plate and the thin metal straps holding it in will just break with a little persuasion.

was 41 this morning and only got up to about 71 or so. was a lot cooler than normal which was nice.

Jmadsen is right. If the doors are off you can just snap the strap with a long screwdriver from back side. Are the bolts broken off?

Thanks tinman. The back side retaining straps are usually just thin sheet metal spot welded in place. Mine were rusted through on the right side. They should break with any type of prying.
