71 F250 front disc calipers/hoses woes
You would not believe the fiasco the past two weeks have been. The pass side caliper stuck after a hard braking in traffic. Got it home and pulled the caliper. Searched local parts houses. Most said nothing in stock, not that side etc.. After getting the wrong side (right caliper) 2x from separate houses regardless of input. Decided to get a set to nip it. Found that all have a smaller hose fitting than the OEM units. My calipers have 7/16-20 hose fittings. The rebuilds have all been smaller 3/8 ? They got me the correct hoses for the OEM units, but the calipers wont work them.
Can I use Brass reducers ?
Hoses with 3/8 fittings ?
And what is the difference between a hose for drum and one for disc? My f100 hoses from the I-beam with drum have hoses that seem like a fit.
What is the application of the larger fittings ? I don't want a safety hazard on the road...
TIA Bobby

Parts catalog illustrations of optional dual piston caliper disc brakes for 1968/72 F250 2WD & F350.

Bob: Notice in parts catalog parts list #17 (lower left) that there is more than just one caliper (2B120), notice ID numbers. compare ID numbers with your originals.
Notice in brake hose (2078) applications (lower right) that there are several different specific disc brake hoses.

THANKS BILL!! I looked at my parts and theirs sure enough the caliper casting numbers are different.
Mine: 69710228
Theirs: 69710308
Hopefully this will help them get the right part. If not, they will get returned and RockAuto will get the business. I could have had them shipped to me already.
Well tried to give you koodoz! on the help but apparently I gave you a + the last time I gave any LOL!

And calipers!! RockAuto parts arrived. Done, right 7/16-20 hoses. Calipers, driver side was correct casting. The passenger was same as received before and bleeder 3/8-24. While the add stated requires 7/16-20 bleeder. Was livid for a second and decided to pull the hose fitting plug. Had been retooled to 7/16-20!!! Good enough for me!!! She's mobile and feels pretty darn good.
Thanks all!
Thanks all!

Wow! Read this late, just went thru the SAME fiasco...
Only my fiasco ws on a '69 F250. Ordered calipers from Rock Auto, JC Whitney, and Auto Warehouse, all were either wrong size inlet or wrong side of truck. Also found out that Auto Warehouse and JC Whitney are owned by the same company; got my returns screwed up a couple of times, too.
BUT, I'm wiser now! I learned that: A: If the caliper inlet is the wrong size, a simple hose change can accomodate that (I first investigated adapters, but wisely didn't go that route), and B: Calipers can be used on either side with a swap of the mounting bracket and swapping bleeder/inlet locations. I discovered this on the last caliper I recieved that was for the "wrong" side, after staring at it for a while.
