I have a 1988 ford f-150 with a 302. When the pedal is slightly depressed I hear a really high pitched "whistling"sound. (that is the best i can describe it). If it is idling it is fine. If i press it anymore the whistle fades away kind of but very quickly. Any idea on what this could be? I heard of K&N cone filters making the noise and assumed that's what it was. But one day I had it off and it still made the noise. Please help. thanks.
You probabaly have some crud built up inside your throttle body or IAC that's causing the whistle as you come off idle. Pull them & rinse them out with throttle body cleaner. If the IAC seems jammed before you clean it, you'll probably have to replace it soon anyway, and it's only ~$35.
If you figure out what it is, let us know. My '87 does the exact same thing. Cleaning the throttle body really well only makes it louder (at least on my truck).
Open element conical style cold air kits do this sometimes. I used to like to try and whistle a tune with the throttle on a car I had that had an in fender sold air.
You didn't say if it was standard or automatic transmission. Are you talking about pressing the gas pedal or the clutch pedal? If the throw out bearing is going out it will make a high pitched whine if you push on the clutch just a little. - Just a thought.
