what do i need to know on how to rebuild my 4.6 motor

i have a 97 ford f150 with a 4.6L engine in it and it has a bent wrist pin and possible some spun bearings on the crank, i was planning on just buying a whole new motor for the truck but it seemed to expensive and i figured rebuilding the motor would be cheaper. i need to know the basics about what to do so i can rebuild it. ASAP!

Welcome to FTE.

I note you are in Iowa.

Serving suggestion:

--Do you have smog inspections now or are you looking at them in the future?

IF NOT,

Look into a later 4.6. More power.

As for the rebuild, the first thing you need to know is if it is even rebuildable. The damage you describe often results in ruined cranks and cracked blocks and/or heads.

You would probably be best off asking in the 4.6 forum, this forum isn't angled towards the specific tech of working on trucks, just the tools and workspace surrounding it.

as far as i can tell there is no damage to the block itself, the crank is questionable i haven't really taken a good look at it but it seems to be just fine. and by later do you mean older or newer? we do not have smog inspections. that i know of.

Buy the book, and engine stand, rent a cherry picker and set aside some money for special tools and have at it.

Cherry picker means different things to different people. In this case, it's an engine hoist.

Purchased the 'Rebuild Small Block Engines', same author/publisher and pleased, found the book very thorough. It takes you though the entire process step by step of a rebuild, what to look for in determining if the engine is rebuildable, etc. Check w/ 'bookfinders.com' and it appears all the used/new books listed are going for around the same price as the referral posted.
