i talk to a few guys about rebuilding my 4.6 they told me not to i would have more problems, then if i would just get a crate motor. my truck is a 98 f-150 and i have a 180,000 on it i'm not sure what i want to do yet. new motor is 3000 and i think a rebuild kit is 1000.
I'm new to the forum here,so I don't want to step on any toes.. but I wouldn't run it.. the rod could let go and cause big dollar damage..crank case, valves, head and piston could all be destroyed. right know all that might be need is some crank work and bearings.
I'd look for a low-mileage engine I could hear run, or for a wrecked truck with a good engine.
Part out wreck after grabbing the engine and you could save some bucks.
Don't run a knocking engine unless you like the idea of destroying it. Otherwise it is usable as a core or can be sold for parts.
I have driven a motor till the rod went, and it is not pretty. There can be flames. The car looked like WW2 planes being shot down...bang! black smoke and sparks and parts. Just find the used replacement engine. Don't buy a brand new one.
