Fixing Rusted Bed Rails

Hi Guys

My trucks bed support rails are rusted out where one side has dropped about 2". But the rest of the bed looks ok little to no rust just the rails. Im thinking of going and buying some 2x2 steel tubing and cutting the old supports off and putting this as a replacement. Has anyone done this? or have any better ideas? I think it will be a lot cheaper than buying a non rusted bed.

Thanks

One of the guys had some bent up and replaced them himself. I need to do the same to my truck. He had removed the bed to do them. when finished he had coated it with chassis saver paint as well. I am going to go that route as well when I do mine..

Here is the thread. it is a few years old and seems that the pics have been deleted on Photobucket. I can call Phil to see if he still has the pics somewhere.

If you could that would be great I would like to see the pieces of metal that he had bent up and the finished project.

I am just going to build a new bed when I can find the time. Between the floor, tailgate, and wheelwells I figure its not worth the effort to save it. Plus it would be alot more fun to build one out of tube.

First I have to fix all the cab rot.

No kidding! Surely someone could fab something up cheaper than that. Besides, if those need to be replaced, the bed will likely have some cancer on it that needs to be dealt with as well. Those things are not worth what they're asking.

Are you going to coat the frame rails?
It also look like you need some exhaust work.

I think the above pictures should answer all your questions.
