Air filter housing

It is an '84 F-250 with 6.9. Water gathers on top of filter housing. I believe there should be a deflector under the hood that moves rain to the sides preventing it from collecting on top of filter housing. What do you call this and where would you get one? My housing is like a bird bath.

I believe it's called a "cowl seal" and you can get them from Ford dealerships or LMC. They're about $40 either way last I checked (which was a long time ago...lol). You could also check some junkyards and see if you find one in decent shape.

I had a broken one on my truck that I had grabbed off a JY truck (the best I could find at the time) and reinforced and sort of shaped it with duct tape. Worked pretty good though a non-broken one would work much better. lol

I had the same problem on my 1980 f150. I happened to have a 78 Granada for parts in the yard, and the hood seal on it fit the 80. I might have had to poke a few different holes in it, I don't remember, but it fixed the leak.

Here's a link to how I did it: Dad's Truck Build. For ~$10, and enough left over to do another truck, it is the way to go IMHO. It works, and works very well.

Thanks for info on cowl seat. I like the garage door seal idea. This truck is not a show piece and just trying to keep it maintained well enough to run around hauling firewood. Not on the road much with this. The farm track tires keep me able to move well in mud and wet terrain.

Even when I rebuild the truck I'm still going with that seal. It works and looks good. I wouldn't use it for a true restoration that had to be perfect, but anything less and it is great.
