2000 F150 XLT 4X4 Off Road 5.4L Electrical Surge?

Hi all, I've been reading along in the forum for a year or so on and off. I've owned Ford vehicles exclusively since the early '90s. I've recently experienced a problem with my 2000 F150 XLT 4X4 Off Road 5.4L Triton Automatic of an electrical nature. While driving down the road, all the gauges on my instrument panel began surging up and down. At first, the fuel and temperature gauges stayed constant and a few miles later, everything bottomed out. When I got the truck home I shut off the key and restarted the truck. There was a clicking noise while it ran. I have since gotten the clicking to stop by replacing the Ignition Switch. I also replaced the fuel pump because the truck would not start, etc. etc. at that point.
However, now it seems the problem is not completely solved. I am able to start the truck (most of the time I have to put it in neutral to do so or wiggle a group of wires located near the Starter Relay box ... Pictures available via email) but the instrument panel is still wishy washy. The signal lights sometimes work and sometimes don't, the brake lights sometimes work sometimes don't, the speedometer and the radio aren't working. Heater, headlights, and taillights all work. I am not very well versed in electrical repairs and would appreciate any help you might give. I also own a Haynes repair manual but it seems most of the diagrams do not apply to my truck as far as the fuse box diagrams etc. I am hoping there is a rather simple solution that won't require a visit to the dealer.... I would definitely appreciate diagrams for the fuse and relay boxes as well as an more technical description for the group of chassis wires that I have located as a possible problem (the ones I wiggled). Thank you!

If the motor is not being affected you have either an intermittant ground or power issue to the circuits in the cab.
Could be power distributuon issue or a ground strap.
You need a copy of the owner manuel for your truck.
Visit the Ford Fleet website and download a copy.
It has all the fuse locations and discriptions.
Asking for diagrams of such a huge layout is a difficult request.
As long as you found a reaction point to the problem work on that to track the source.
Nothing should be moton sensitive like that.
Good luck.

Thank you! I have found the wiring diagrams (I think I'm going to need to learn a new language to read these things properly! ) for this truck but also came across a lot of information about the cruise control switch going bad on the master cylinder and causing fire problems. Funny thing about that is that we have replaced the master cylinder twice in the past few months and the cruise control switch was bad as well. We never replaced that particular switch because we don't use the cruise control here on the farm. I am beginning to wonder if I shouldn't start there....

Speedometer cables went away a long time ago, probably last used in most Fords in the early 90s.
