stuck in reverse
hello everyone i have a 92 f150 2wd with 300 six 5 speed and i was driving home and all of a sudden it made a weird noise and kicked out of gear and wouldnt go back into 5th so i coasted off the road. when i put it any fwd gear it would die before trying to move but if i put it in neutral it moves in reverse any ideas on what would cause this and how to at least get it out of reverse thanks

Something is almost certainly wrong with the shifter, you can remove it for inspection while the transmission is in the truck. Remove the shifter stick, remove the floor covering (carpet, vinyl, etc), there is a floor plate over the transmission. If you remove the plate, the shifter cover will be right there. If you remove this part, you will be able to see the entire shift mechanism. While the cover is off you can move the shift hubs by hand, be sure to center them for neutral before replacing the cover. Look at the way the inside of the shifter stick selects and engages the shift rods and forks. It's pretty simple once you get in there.

i was finaly able to work on it and when i took the shifter out i seen 1 of the 3 rods is stuck and there was a little spring sticking out and a snap ring came out. i will try to get a pic of what it looks like, now i need to know if i would be be better off replacing the whole shifter assembly or how to go about fixing the current one
