2" lift- Is it necessary?

Have a 2010 F150 FX4 with 20" wheels. Want to put on 305 55 R20 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Will I need to have a 2" lift installed or will the wheels be okay with no rubbing? If lift needs to be installed any brand recommendations, and how much should I expect to pay for the lift and then for install? Thank you for your help.

You could run those without a lift. anything bigger and you will need a level kit. I ran a set of 35/12.5/20 mudgrapplers on my stock 20s with a 2" daystar level kit on my 2009 fx4.

I just installed Terra Grapplers 305/55/20 and was informed by a friend who is a manager at Discount Tires, that I should have a 2" Level kit installed first; Which I did. Even with the Level kit with the Tires turned at full lock the clearance is real close; Doesn't look like that those tires would fit without rubbing, etc.

I have the Readylift 2" level. I had to have it installed, so with labor $450.00

Here's a couple of pics for you:

$450 is steep. I wouldn't pay anymore than $100 for one and instal it myself. Fairly simple. Takes about 1 1/2 hours. That is if you have the tools and knowledge to do so

It also included the Alignment. Unfortunately, I didn't have the tools, etc.

I forgot about the alignment part. I never had to have one on my 09 after the level kit. Tires always wore correctly and never pulled. Same with my brother-in-laws 2010 lariat I did last month. His drives just like it did before. Maybe we just got lucky.

I had 305/55/20 on my stock rims with no level and they fit fine. Put them in aftermarket 10" wide rims and they would rub until I put in my 3" lift.
With stock rims you WILL be fine.

Thumbs up

Ski-Boob,
as seen by the above members responses there seems to be varying opinions on whether these tires will fit your truck without issue and/or modification. My advice would be to seek the advice of a local truck shop as well as this site, who could advise and put you on the correct path because this is what they do for a living. These tires aren't cheap as we know and it would be ashame if you purchased them and had problems. As they say you shouldn't put the horse before the cart, lol.
Good Luck
ps: I hate to say it and most men won't man up BUT your first and most important issue would be to consult with your wife and see if she gives you the green light to spend the money on these tires....u know how woman can be about s**t like this.
Not my wife per say but perhaps yours ! ;o) lmao

Funny about "man up".

The original tires I bought because I thought that "Ride Quality" was the most important item to my wife (this is my wife's truck) were the Nitto Terra's 305/50/20. First words out of her mouth "Why are the tires so small?"

So, it was back to Discount and I had the 305/55/20's installed and now she is happy!!!

ps Ride Quality? Hardly any difference; might feel a few more bumps, but certainly nothing to worry about IMHO/ and hers.

XSivG, clever name. Unfortunately that is a hurdle in my way as well, you were accurate with your statement. She will have to understand. Ski-boob was good stuff as well. You should take that show on the road! To you and the others, I appreciate the info and feedback. Thank You.

That is an un-believable statement.......... If I "consulted" my wife for permission to buy something for my truck, I think she would laugh in my face. A sad state of affairs, but I guess you picked her.

Welcoming both of you to FTE!

One statement is none of our concern and the other is inappropriate and rude.

Let's just assume that everyone here has an understanding with their "better" half and one's intentions to waste $3000 on a truck is all well and good.

On the other hand, let's further assume that anyone "such as myself" who is seeking to waste $3000 on my truck has enough respect for my better half to consult with her before dropping that kind of coin on a perfectly good stock rig.

Post away gentlemen and do so politely please.
