Primers

Ok so i am new to painting so please bear with me. I am wondering if the Color of a primer ( gray vs. black) surves a purpose? Does it matter? Thanks for any help.

Primer is primer as far as that is concerned. As to the color the situation is this. If you were painting a car in a very light color which primer would you rather be top coating? Chose your primer color based on what your color is. For example my truck has Wimbledon White so I used a white primer. Under the Holly green I had no problem with using gray/green DPLF. I also knew that PPG Concept covers really well in single stage. Now if I were using their lower cost Omni bc/cc, which tends to be thin on the pigment side, it could take a fair amount of coats over a dark primer to achieve full color coverage.
