95 7.3 Power stroke delays shutdown when key is removed

Hello. I have a new issue I would like some help from any one who will take the time to read this.

I have a 1995 f350 7.3 diesel automatic dually bone stock, no aftermarket wiring. I am having issues with a delay on shut down when I remove the keys. This is not a constant problem but more of an intermittent one. I do notice the abs light stays partially lit when this issue occurs. I also noticed when it finally shuts down the partially lit abs light also goes away. On average it will run for around 30 seconds after the key it placed into the shutdown position. can some one please direct me to what might be the cause of my issues?

I have not yet had a problem with it finally shutting off...just the delays. I would like to resolve my issues before I do have problems where it wont shut down and I resort to pulling the pcm fuse with no alternatives.

Thanks for your time and I am looking forward to your all suggestions.

Believe it or not this is usually caused by a bad GPR (glow plug relay). Something internally shorts inside the relay causing power feedback to the PCM, keeping the engine running.

I replaced the GPR about 2 months back. I had a complete failure of the previous relay and decided to purchase a cheap one off ebay...I think a spent around 20 bucks for it trying to save money.

I will first try to test the issue and see if it is the issue by testing the small terminal on the GPR to see if it is still hot when the engine is running with no key. if its hot...... power is feeding back.

If this is the case I should be able to 100 percent confirm by removing the lead to the GPR and use my block heater only for a few days. If you see any fault to my logic feel free to correct me.

and thank you for your time and suggestions.

Did the problem start before or after the GPR was replaced ?

Are you sure the relay has an isolated frame, that is, the mounting frame is not tied to one of the coil terminals?

Simpler test - run the GPs for the WTS time, plus 10 seconds or so. Then disconnect the relay and start the truck, then shut it down.

Real quick... the problem began about a month after replacing the glow plug relay. I have verified my glow plug relay is good to go... no problems there. There is no power feeding back when it will not shut down. Although the pcm fuse continues to receive power until it chooses to shutdown..never taken longer than about 30 seconds. What other ideas would cause these types of issues.
how about a cam position sensor or a vehicle speed sensor. any one ever heard of them shorting causing simular issues?

Having problems and having to do the needed repairs are fine by me.... Just frustrating when you have a partial failure of a component and it continues to come and go.

GPR runs on the same fuse, #22. Disconnect both small wires on GPR and see if problem goes away. If so then it's the relay.

It's your cheap relay. I would bet anything on that.

You have something back feeding fuse 22
It's either gpr or chafed wires in the harness. I'm still going with gpr.
Go to NAPA and get a GPR-109 about 25 bucks
