1992 F250 4x4 5.8L Instrument Cluster Question

Hi. This is my first thread so it is nice to be here.

I have two instrument clusters one has a tachometer the other does not.

I have taken a picture of both. On the back side of the cluster there is a spot for some kind of module. There is no plug or wire that goes to it. My picture will point to the empty spots.

Is this where a cruise control module would go?

That's something entirely different. It's the slot for an anti-slosh module, which never made it into these trucks from the factory. Just asking as well, but what year is your truck and what year is the donor cluster you bought?

My truck is a 1992 F25o and the donor is a 1993 F250 with the tachometer

I don't know what a anti slosh module is. I guess it is not important.

I am wanting to install cruise control on the truck. I pulled the center of the wheel off with the switches in great shape. I don't know what I will need.

I wanted to go back to the salvage yard but two days of heavy rain make it pretty messy walking those 20 acres. They crushed some of the donors I had taken parts from. It makes me mad when they crush a good truck that still has small parts I need.

If both of those Tach clusters are gasser ones; They'll snap right in. Nomuss/no fuss..

The Anti-Slosh Module simply helps keep the gas hand from wagging from F to E, etc on rough roads, etc...

Crown Vics, Thunderbirds, etc have them.

Yes they are gas. The thing to watch for is correctly putting in the connectors. They are numbered from 1-14. The wiring panel will have numbers on them if your lucky. You have to exam it it really close.

The 7,8,and 14 should be marked and they could be hard to see.

One side of the connectors are numbered 1-7 and the other 8-14.

Remember to make sure your negative is disconnected on the battery.

I was lucky and did not see the numbers the first time. The tachometer worked right away. That is why I changed panels. Its better than one of those ugly ones that cost more and you have to find away to mount it. I got the new panel for $50 at the salvage yard.

Anti slosh. Heh, just learned something new here.

I can say on my '89 F150, when the gas goes udner half a tank, just stepping on the brakes coming to a stop, the gauge can almost go to empty, then come back up, go empty, come up etc.

My '94 F150 also does it, but not nearly as bad as my '89.

I would rather have the anti slosh module. I don't like seeing it on empty when you know there is more than a quarter tank.

Do you have dual tanks?

Yes I do. Does that make an anti slosh module a problem?

It can if you use both tanks. The issue is when you switch from an empty tank to a full one, the module sees that as a slosh essentially and dumb's the speed at which it changes down. In other words your gauge will take a little time after switching tanks to reach the correct reading. Other than that, no real problem. If you are interested in it, here is a full how-to by Steve83 @Supermotors.

Click the image, read its caption and go through the next few as well.

I probably would not like that, if I hit empty one on tank on the highway I want the other to click right on over. Maybe that is why they left them out.

The only thing that will slow down is the indicator, fuel will be transferred at the same speed as always, it will just show later on the dash instruments.

Yep. No affect on the actual flow of fuel, just the speed at which the gauge changes level.
