Rear Main?

i have a oil leak the just recently got worse. like a lot worse im goin through a gallon of oil a week i drive 380 miles a week and its gettinhg expensive. my Question is how difficult is it to replace it and what is envolved? what part should i get napa shows teflon or rubber seals and one with a wear sleeve IDK what to do. What do you guys think?

Have you checked the CDR? A clogged CDR will cause the crankcase pressure to rise and push oil out whatever seal it can find.
Also are you sure the oil is leaking from the rear main, and not any other place?

To replace it, you have to drop the transfer case and transmission, then pull the clutch and flywheel off the engine. The rear main can be replaced without removing the rear cover, which is easier and faster.

I'd recommend the OEM Ford seal that comes with the wear sleeve. It should also come with a driver tool to install the new seal. I believe it is a teflon seal and comes highly recommended. I used it about 2 years ago while doing a clutch job because I was in there (don't think it was leaking, but figured I was in that far anyways....) So far no problems

Valve covers can leak quite a bit on these engines as well. The bolts should be snug, but not tight, as the covers can easily warp.

make sure its not leaking around the lifp of the oil pan as well
