New Engine Rebuild/Truck not starting

Have a 1987 B700 Ford truck 6.1. We did a complete engine rebuild all new internal parts in engine. Engine all put together, with new intake, Edlebrock Carb 1411 and Edlebrock fuel regulator, MSD Distributor 8350. and fuel filter. Now will not start white smoke coming out of Carb/Engine when trying to start. I really need help!. We tryed everthing, did the TDC and still nothing. Dont understand everything is new. Any ideas would help.

Is it backfiring through the carb or through the exhaust?Sounds like timing is off.Just remember, you need air, fuel and spark.Spark has to be at the right time in order to start the engine. Is it a new balancer or old one?Outer ring could've slipped(if an old one) causing timing marks to be off.Maybe double check TDC compression stroke and look at timing pointer to be sure its at zero on the balancer. Also, you can try advancing the dist. while someone is cranking the engine.

White smoke with a backfire? Is it popping?Maybe the pushrods are too long causing the valves to hang open.No cylinder pressure? What cam?Did you have the heads redone?Stud mounted or pedestal rocker arms? You have the correct firing order?1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8.Timing chain installed correctly?

Checked pressure on each cylinder its reading around 150 psi. The heads where checked and cleaned no problems with them, that is what the machine shop said. Firing order checked marked eveything. Timing chain 2 dots lined up. Rockers are new, just stock type, tightened them to specs also. The Cam I have to check the one I bought. The push rods are new maybe your right with these to long. I will let you know about the CAM later on. Thank you for helping me

I know it sounds simple but pour a little fuel directly into carb and see what happens. Also have you checked the plugs for spark. I do not want to insult your ability but check those off your list.

Old balancer but new crank? Could it be your TDC is not really TDC? May wanna verify piston location when your TDC on the balancer.

I've used a Melling cam without any issues. They're equivalent to a genric product.I was more interested in cam specs such as lift and duration as too much lift with stock non adjustable rockers can cause problems.Stock length pushrods for a 460 is 8.55".Not sure about a 370ci.If a new cam and you've turned the engine over too many times,it's possible to wear off the cam break in lube from the cam lobes. You'll have to judge that and decide if the lobes need to be relubed.
