Need help guys!

I have a '72 dually that i am working on and cant get the truck running right. It has the 300 inline 6 engine and i have replaced alot of things including the plugs and wires, the rotor cap and points, and the fuel pump. the carburetor was rebuilt about 2 years ago and the engine has a whopping 2 miles on it since it was rebuilt. It is spitting back through the carburetor and does not wanna run right. I have no idea what to do next. I have even put Marvels mystery oil in the fuel tank and poured a little in the carb because there is black smoke coming out of the exhaust and i figured it was carbon deposits on the pistons. But anyway if you have a good idea where to start from the please respond. Thanx.

Did you rebuild it by yourself? Has it run at all since the rebuild? Have you checked the timing, and the distributor placement. If the distributor is off just a little it will act like that. It could be any of a number of internal setting probs after a rebuild.

I would also recommend you double check your ignition wiring placement. Make sure they are in the correct order, which should be cast on the intake manifold.
Also check that the rotor is pointing to the #1 wire when #1 cylinder is at TDC of the compression stroke. Often, the cap identifies "#1", but the distributor is pointing elsewhere, especially if the distributor has been replaced.

did you ever check your timing gear. most people that rebuild these things dont realize that you have to press the gear on after you tightin down the cam plate. otherwise it will jump in and out of time because the gear is not on all the way. had that happen on one once. it kept acting like it was 180 out but it wouldnt run if you switched it. finally tore into it and that was the only thing i could find. just hopeing i can help
