97 PSD..Auto trans only has first, fluid clean, no flash on OD light
1997 PSD e4od auto trans 4wd
I only have 1st gear. No reverse. Starts and stays in 1st whether I put it in 1,2 or D. neutral is neutral and no reverse.
OD light is not flashing. Fluid is clean and clear at the correct level.
It drove fine when I drove to the store, came back out started it up and had this problem.
Speedo works, tach works. I cleanned the VSS and check all the plugs going to the trans for damaged wires or corroded ends. All checks fine.
Any ideas?

I wonder if it's getting the shift signal, maybe the ECM is heading south. Anyway to wire up a test light you can see when driving? I suppose the test light should come on for the 2nd gear signal. Least you could rule out if the comp is... Wait a second.....
This happened to me.....
The Tps....... If below .8 it wants to stay in first cause it can't find a proper Tps signal......
Worth a shot! See if it's alright and it's not corroded.

Actually try completely unplugging the transmission connector. The big on on the passenger side, not the one on drivers side on the range selector.
It should default to 4th gear in the "D" position, and 2nd gear in "1" or "2". Reverse should engage fine. If it doesn't function like this with the electrical connection unplugged, then there is an internal transmission problem.

If his TPS went south, his truck wouldn't do anything. 7.3 PSDs are completely electronically injected. There is no throttle valve, plate or cable. The TPS is built right into the gas pedal.

This no shift is a tricky one....
Kinda wanna know what it is, so I've been hunting around online.
Seems like a lot of people have had issues with the Solonoid pack.
Also some of it is wiring.
Here is a wiring diagram for the e4od (includes both the 89-93 and 94-97)

I tested the MLPS, its good.
I unplugged the pass side plug, I had no change.
Only had 1st gear. No reverse.
Whats interesting, while in the air, I put it in either reverse or nuetral and the rear wheels turn forward (limited slip btw) but no power behind it at all.
Its on the trailer now, tranny shop in the morn to have any codes read.
