K&N filter????

I have a 2001 v10 F250, with 4.30`s, and 33,080 original miles. Someone mentioned to me that switching air filters to a K&N from stock, will help squeeze another mpg or 2 out of the truck. Is there any truth to this? Or just someone trying to get me to spend money????
Thanks

I have K&N's on every vehicle I own, and have never had one give me better mileage.

Me too. Cheaper in long run over the paper ones, unless you only have 33k miles on a 1999. KN will outlast the owner on that one. Your 80 miles over so I would buy it.

If you're going to do that, just as well get the Airaid intake system. Just changing the filter type won't do much except, as stated, less money on paper filters.

I guess I am in the minority because I have run K&N air filters in all my vehicles for the past 20 years and each of them has seen a SMALL increase in MPG (usually .5 to 1 MPG depending on the vehicle). For me it is worth the cost because anything helps $ wise.

Funny thing is, when my wife totaled our Astro van I couldn't get the engine compartment open to remove the K&N. I almost cried over that $30 air filter until I got the insurance check and saw that they way over valued the Astro.

Personally, I like the K&N type filters - even though I have had the occasional problem with oil on the MAF like my '96 t-bird did - which was a known over-oiling from the factory.

But then, I like to clean the MAF in all my vehicles once or twice a year anyway...

Currently, I'm running the oil-less filter that came with the Volant CAI - my '97 Cougar has the K&N I had in the '96 t-bird.

I ran a Fram Air Hog (oilless) in the V10 for years, never dusting the intake tube, or any other quality control issues.

But MPGs? Never

KN air filter garbage in my opinion. They let fine dust go though and in engine.

If anyone concern over this we had former 01 F250 V10 that went though tons of oil 5 quarts to 1 gal every 5000 miles due KN air filter was set on that early so we switch to oem air filter due reason of dust in intake hose.

And PVC valve/hose been replaced with new OEM but never cure oil usage.

If you value your engine realible keep oem air filter or aftermarket air filter that doesn't let fine dust go though like KN.

KN air filter maybe great for anyone who doesn't live near factories or dirt road or dust condition.

I cleaned mine the other day and dont think a complete system would do much, 2003 speaking. Factory box/piping goes straight out radiator support. Nice cool air right in front of radiator and boxed slightly behind grill for the wet weather. Thought it looked like a good set up. From air intake to filter is only about 5 inches long.

This truck did a lot of sitting untilI bought it in January, I took it home on the 24th of Jan, it turned 23,000 that night, and now its at 33,132. It belonged to my Grandparents as a tow vehicle before I bought it and now use it as a daily driver.............. So is there any thing to help the mileage, Or take my 11.5-13, and live with it?

The reason I only use OEM filters. It's a good read but up to you to make your own decicions.

K&N air filter or OEM, why OEM is better

K&N with zoodad mod did pick up .5-1.0 mpg.

Nothing wrong with a well maintained oil / cotton gauze filter.

To the guys that say they let stuff thru, let me see your proof!

I pulled my K&N out and put in fram.Fram put my fuel trims back in line and cleaned up my exhaust. No mileage change in either case. I am getting 8-9.5 right now so I would take your mileage and LOVE it. We'll see what the new motor does for me.

As you know, there is a lot that determines your MPG, but the zoodad mod and a K&N filter are 2 of the things I have done to increase my MPG. I have probably peaked my MPG with the SCT Tuner from Mike at 5-Star tuning. But hey, an 8,000 pound V10 powered truck that gets 16 MPG makes my really happy.
