Question about abs light on 2005 250 4x4

My abs light comes on and the speedo goes out, but it does not stay off. It seems like the abs light comes on and the speedo goes out worse if I am pulling a load or I am driving on a rough road. It is almost like it blinks like it has a short, but sometimes the light will stay on and the speedo will be off all day. Some days it will all work fine. I have already changed the sensor on the rear chunck. I was wondering if yall think it might be the wiring from the rear end, or one of the front speed sensors.
Thanks for the help.

Check the VSS sensor connection on the rear axel housing.
It could be a bad wire or a bad sensor. If you disconnect
it look for water and corrosion. clean it up and use some
dielectric grease on it nad see if that helps.

I already changed that one. What else could it be?

Well there are also some sensors in the front wheels.
But I don't think that if they were bad the
speedo would quit. Have you had any work done?
Still check the front ones.
Maybe someone else will chime in.

If there was an ABS light, a code will be set. Get the code read first and that will narrow the problem down to the sensor throwing the fault.

The problem could be with a sensor or one of the connectors leading to that sensor. Usually it is the rear sensor.

The only work besides maintenance was I had a b&w goose neck hitch added.
Thanks for the help guys. I guess I will have to break down and go to the Ford place and take a look at the codes.

Just for silliness you could try Autozone. Theres may be able
to pull the ABS codes.
