Rear end donor vehicle?

Hello. I'm looking for recommendations on what's the most common donor vehicle to steal a Ford 9" rear end out of that has the 5 X 5.5 wheel bolt pattern to go in a '52 F-1.

Thank you,

Colby

Thank you 51Panelman. I am new to doing a rear end swap and I'm sure I'll be asking a lot more beginner/stupid questions so I appreciate all the help I can get!

There were two different 9's used 1968/72 F100. One has 28 spline axleshafts, t'other has 31 spline axleshafts, a 9 3/8" ring gear and Traction-Lok.

9 vs 9 3/8: Only 5 parts are the same: Housing gasket, pinion seal, pilot bearing retainer, one pinion bearing and race.

EVERYTHING else is different! Parts for the 9 3/8" can be difficult to find.

Mine came from a 1964 ford Galaxie and did not require narrowing. it also had the nice big bearings and stronger 31 spline axles.

Bill - Thank you, that's great information to know. Is there an easy way to tell the difference between the two of them just by looking from the outside?

51PanelMan - I will read that article immediately. Thank you very much!

9 3/8: Carrier (pumpkin) upper rib curves downwards at the ends. 9 is straight across.

1957/67 F100's have 11" x 1 3/4" rear brakes (same: 1948/52 F1, 1953/56 F100). 1968/72 F100's have 11" x 2 1/4" rear brakes.

Caveat Emptor: Some 1959/67 F100's have Dana 44's, some 1963/66 F100's have Dana 60.2's, some 1966/69 F100's have Dana 60.3's. 60.2/3 are not Dana 60's.

All have an inspection cover, use 5 lug 5.50" bolt circle wheels. You don't want any, parts can be difficult to find. Stick with the 9.
