Interior wiring question

Hey guys I have asked this before but never really looked to hard into it and never got very good answers to my question. The problem is when I open my drivers side the dome light does not come on, open the passagers side door and the light will come on. I checked the drivers door switch had power to it like I was told I was suppose to. My truck is a 1992 F150 ext cab xlt seems to have all power options.

Today I checked into it a little more. I pulled the light off the roof to check the wiring and make sure it was ok. I had broken wires on the truck before maybe that was the case. I only found a pinched wire. I checked it out the light and heres what I have, two wires one is a green/yellow wire that has power all the time. The other is a blue/black wire that has power on it when the passanger side door is opened. I would think that the blue/black wire would have power on it when the drivers door is open but I think i have a bad connection or bad switch? I followed the wires back in the harness as best as I could. From the points I looked at the harness comes down to a plug on the drives side by the seat belt thingy. The plug goes to another harness that connectes to the driver door switch and goes across the cab floor under the carpet.

Im thinking that the problem is where the wires meet to get the power. I had heard of a broken wire to the fuse box? Im wondering if this is the problem im experincing but not sure. I want to check it out but I have no idea where to start and Id hate to pull the bottom of the dash appart to pull the fuse box out and look for the wire and go through it. Im sorry for the long rant but any help is greatfully appreciated.

Lol I thought I was the only one with that problem lol I actually find it pretty convenient for some reason cause if I need it ill just manually turn it on with the headlight ****. I believe its a bad switch, I tested it before where I jumped the wires on the switch and it made it turn on. I don't recall exactly what I did but I do believe its the switch

I'd be most suspicious of that switch in the door jamb. Connect the green/yellow to the black/blue and see if the light comes on.

Those switches get dirty and can be cleaned.

I was hoping the switch too but never found out how to troubleshoot it just to check for power and I seemed to have power in certain areas. I beleive power to the outsides and nothing in the middle. But Im going to jump it out and see what happens. I assume if I jump it out and the light does not come on the switch is bad?

Unscrew the thing, remove it from the door jamb. I'm pretty sure a 9/16" or 16mm socket will work. Push the actuator button and look inside of it from the rear, you can see how the brass fingers contact the circular brass piece when the actuator is extended. Those fingers & circular piece become dirty & corroded and can be cleaned..

Green/yellow-stripe = always-on, constant power for things like clocks & radio station presets and any other key-off power needs.

Ok Im thinking its a bad switch. Unhooked the switch jumped out the blue/black and the green/yellow wire to the connector not the switch and the light came on. I took the dust cover off the switch and looked at the plunger there are four black screws at the corners but I dont have anything not even a small screw driver or allen key to get it to open. So i shot it with electrical connector cleaner let it dry and reinstalled it and still nothing.

The function of a switch is to complete a circuit. If you unplug a 2 wire switch and connect the 2 wires with a jumper, the jumper is the switch. If it works with the jumper then replace the switch.
