Tail lights staying on & a broken trans-shifter cable
I copied this from my post under bronco, thought I would double my chances. Thanks for any help
Ok, so what do tail lights and automatic transmission shifter cables have in common? They both managed to break after letting my 15yo back my trailer, lol. Whilebacking the trailer it got jack-knifed and brokethepassenger tail light lens and mangled the inside reflector cup a little. Now the tail lights won't turn off, even with headlight switch off. I didn't have time yesterday with church, so I just pulled the fuse under the dash for it. Probably a short in the wire from the mangled reflector cup??? or what else?? Also the shifter cable, this will benumber3 sinceJanuary. After about 3 months it gets in a bind, with no control, and any movement breaks it. It is from O'reilly'sand they just told me it lists for a 95-96 bronco, that pc don't show one available for 93,94. Could that be it? it looks the same as the factory one did. It is a very simple install, and is not in any binds. It is the kind with the ball-end connectors. Local Ford dealership, originally told me(january) that the part is no longer availablethrough them( I think the boy didn't want to take the time to look up the part number). Again, itisn't a hard job to install, but aggrevating doing it every three months. any ideas? Am i doing something wrong(even tho, it is simple install?). It simply slides through the hole in the floor board right above the gas pedal, one end connects at the base of the steering column and the other end goes through a holder bolted to transmission and then connects to the ball-end shifter leveron thesideof transmission. The holder allows for tension adjustment, and I paid real close attention on the last install, making sure the needle lined up perfectly in the middle of every gear on the bezel in the dash. For the record, the shifter cable broke before the tail light incident( I had to manually shift the transmission underneath to changegears.)
