Lifting a 2011 250. Best kit for the DYI'er?
Hey guys! I have a 2011 250 SD crew cab 4x4 6.2L gas. It currently has the stock 18" rims on it with the stock origional tires. By the time I need new tires I want to get some 20" wheels and also do a lift. I don't take this truck 4 wheeling I just want the look of a raised truck so I guess a body lift is my best option. Here is what I am looking for.
- 2-3" lift without affecting suspension, "much".
- A complete kit or list of a kit and other peices I will need.
- A kit I can do myself in my garage. I am a pretty compotent shade tree mechanic so i know my way around tools.
- Something that won't hurt gas milage to bad.
- I pull a 34' travel trailor so I need to be able to do that. I have a drop receiver setup so increased truck height won't hurt me as I can lower the hitch point.
- Lastly "I think", where to buy?
Current mods to the engine are: Cat back single exhaust, AFR stage 2 intake. no tune. I am looking for options on that as well if anyone has any suggestions.
Thanks
Wade

How big of tires are you looking to run and what's your budget?
You can get a leveling kit and some 35" tires fairly inexpensively. Leveling kits can be as basic as spacers in the springs to brand new springs, again, depends on your budget.
Once you level it, when you get the trailer hooked up, depending on the tongue weight, it might point the truck's nose into the air. If so, some air bags/timbrens/add a leaf would alleviate that.
For tuners, go with Mike from 5 Star.

Thanks! I don't really want to go crazy with a lot of money and mods. I just wanted to raise the ride hight a bit. I know that adding 20's will accomplish some of that but not sure it will get it where I am wanting it or think I am wanting it. I think air bags start to get into money I don't really want to spend.
I am not really familiar with lift kits but have heard the terms body lift and suspension lift thrown about with the body lift being the easier, cheaper route for those of us looking for the raised look but not really concerned with the performance increase of off roading.
Does this make sense??
Thanks

Wheels won't add any height, it's the tires (sidewall) that add the height. All the big name suspension company's make leveling kits, plus there's some others that you can piece together off of eBay, etc. I have a ReadLift leveling kit in my garage waiting to get installed. It has spring spacers, shock extensions, and a new trackbar bracket. I keep the factory springs and my current shocks with this setup. I couldn't (and wouldn't) recommend a body lift. Maybe someone else with more experience with those will chime in.
Air bags are about $250-$300 depending on where you get them, and you could probably install them yourself.

2-3" leveling kit
F-350 4" blacks
Leveling kit goes ontop of your front coil springs. Maintains your factory ride
f-350 blocks replace your 2" blocks
You'll gain 3-4" of height with no change in ride quality. This will let you run 35" rubber. Looks damn good IMO.
Also, run the F-350 blocks to offset your trailer weight. It'll let your truck squat some without pointing the noise skyward

Tylus pretty much cleared it up. My truck with a 2.5" leveling kit should set it close to level where the same kit on your truck may make it sit higher in the front. It all depends on your front spring configuration, but the rear blocks on the 350 are taller than that on the 250..
I'm going with a Toyo M/T in a 285/75/18 on my factory rims. These reflect on Toyo's site at 35.1" tall and 11.6" wide.
