1979 License Plate Frame

People are always asking me what year my pickup is (1979) so I've been trying to find a set of license plate frames such as the ones in the attached link from National Parts Depot - They are out of stock and I ordered a set from Carolina Classics and they said they have been on back order for seven months. Does anyone know a source for this type of license plate frame??

Thanks for any replies!!!

I plan on running actual plates from 78 on mine. here you can do that if it's old enough, might be an option for you. I don't like plate frames.

I grew up in St. Joe MO and never knew about that. I just pulled it up on the DMV website; pretty cool. I had historic plates on my Galaxie; a lot more lax up there than in Texas.

I'm sorry you grew up in St. Joe, lol. yeah, it's a neat thing to be able to do. I've got a set of 78 and a set of 79, looking for 75 for my monte still. Historic plates have too many requirements. I don't think using original has anything other than normal plates.

I can run '78 tags on my '78 cause I have it registered as an antique, only I have no way to know what they mean by a '78 tag.

Back then, when you licensed the vehicle the year you license it was on the plate. The year is stamped into the plate like the letters.

ours weren't like that in '78... we switched to the stickers in the mid 70's. This is what ours looked like for several decades, I believe including 1978: WEST VIRGINIA Map Graphic License Plate WV | eBay

So I dunno if I could use one of those, or not.

This is one I found off a '76, which must have been towards the very end of this style plate. Already as you can see they were using stickers, but this is still a really cool looking plate: Antique 1976 West Virginia LICENSE PLATE, car, truck, tag, wvu gold, wv, antique | eBay

ahh, here is a site with all the years, and some for sale. I guess around '75 they switched, but continued to issue new stickers to the older tags... idk. http://chucksplates.com/?cp=&ss=West%20Virginia

You wouldn't think you could find a year by year guide with pictures and explanations for WV tags. You'd be wrong. God bless the internet: http://www.andrewturnbull.net/plates/westvirginia.html

lol

Jesse James was probably sorry he lived in St. Joe. Shot and killed by Bob Ford. "The dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard .. and they laid poor Jesse in his grave."

nah its 12x6. according to the history '76 was the last year, they sent everyone the new style tags in time for july for the '76 for the bicentennial, whether they were expired or not.

I think its pretty cool. I always liked our old tags. I may buy one and get it registered... only $10 for right one.. I dunno how much more the state will want to actually put it on my truck though.
