1978 Ford F250 Transmission Swap
Hello
I have a 1978 Ford F250 with a C4 Automatic Transmission and the 400 Ford. My Grandfather bought me a 4 Speed Transmission(Have no idea what kind yet) from a 1977 Ford F150 that also had the 400 Ford. I was wondering if this is going to be a direct bolt on to my truck. Or if i will need to get the crossmember from the guy we bought it from. Also, my grandfather said i may need to find a different fly wheel. I'm wondering on if this is going to be pretty simple or more complicating then we had planned. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks Guys

need alot but can be worth it
there is a lot of little things you need and they add up but then again 4 speeds are great but just to name a few things you will need bellhouse, clutch fork, z bar, clutch pedal assembly for inside the cab, clutch, flywheel, pilot shaft bushing, longer drive shaft, new speedo cable if i remember right, and different cross member or just get your auto rebuilt or pick up another c6 from a 400 or 460 they both fit just my 2 cents

Thanks for the quick reply. I'v got everything you mentioned there except for the crossmember.. so when i go to pick this transmission up i'll just have to get the crossmember from the guy. If i liked automatic trannys i'd rebuild the one i got but i was looking into getting a standard in that puppy.

the cross member is the same for auto or standard trans you will just have to move it up but there are holes already in the frame. you will need a longer rear drive shaft and you will have to shorten your front driveshaft. that aside from what was already mentioned. I did the swap and it was pretty simple once i had all the correct parts.
