If ford recommends 5w30 full synth, why use blend? Also if they rec 5w30, why 0w30?
Ford does not specifically recommend synthetic oil. The current specs that Ford recommends are WSS-M2C945-A for 5W-20 and WSS-M2C946-A for 5W-30. There are many conventional, synthetic blend, and full synthetic oils that meet these specs. In fact, they don't even come with full synthetic oil from the factory. The factory fill in Motorcraft synthetic blend.
As far as 0W-30 goes, the main advantage here is in cold weather as it is thinner at cold temperatures. This means it will flow better and provide better lubrication when starting a cold engine, which is when the most wear occurs. Using Mobil 1 0W-30 as an example, if you look at the product data sheet you will see that it does in fact meet Ford's spec for 5W-30.
So after reading the Bob guys article 0w30 seems to b the way to go for even summer time as he said with his average 75deg Florida morning. But as after his repedative diatribe I still can't decide why to go mineral, blend or full synth. It seems to be full synth is the way to go.. If so why do people use blend.
Ok that's what I was thinking but to me it makes no sense because of how important the oil is why would you cheap on it? I mean I understand saving money but its not even but 10 to 15 dollar difference. I could understand if it was 100 or even 50 dollars difference. At any rate I appreciate the feed back.
If it's one thing you'll see on Bobistheoilguy it's that you can really over think what kind of oil to put into your engine. Our Triton engines are fairly stout and not particularly picky. Use any 0W/5W-20 or 30 weight oil be it conventional, semi or full synthetic and you'll be fine.
Right about over thinking it, and yes thread is bit outdated. There's so many out there I have no idea how I arrive at the ones I do. Thanks for the reply
