I have had mine inside my toolbox for 6yrs with no problems. It comes on once or twice a day to keep the tank full. If I'm using it steady I'll keep the toolbox lid open just to give it a little ventilation. I'm convinced it will last longer not being exposed to the elements under the truck especially the road salt here in the N.E.

Thanx for the feedback; I do like your ammo can arrangement and was just wondering if the compressor ever needed ventilation to avoid overheating.

No doubt that protecting the pump from road splash (an projectiles) is going to help it to survive longer - I was just wondering if these compressors ever overheat in a confined space.

No - not yet; I've got a new F250, 6.2L right out of the box - I'm probably not going to be doing any performance mods for a while (if , ever). 'will be using this truck to tow a travel trailer - if it handles the load OK, I'll be happy with that.
