Introducing myself...

Hi all. I've been lurking for a while and figured it was time to sign in and say hello to the group. My name is Jack and my wonderful wife just got me a '50 F1 truck for my bday! It's a gem and so is she!

I have a Bronco that I've built up which I'll probably be selling to fund my F1, I'll attempt to attach pics of each. I've also been active in the desert racing community and have a 1/2 completed class 7200 in my garage that I will need to finish before I get too far with the F1.

This truck will be my daily driver. The body will be pretty much factory. Wood floors, factory style gauges, original steering wheel, upgraded seats, lots of sound deadening and ice cold A/C.

For drivetrain I'd like to put a flathead in with a 5 speed. I'd love to do 5 on the tree but it doesn't look like that is feasible so we'll see. I intend to use Pro-Engineer to do a 3D model of an IFS system for the front which I'd like to build completely from scratch (well, I'm not going to turn down spindles but I'd like to make my own knuckles, A-Arms, bracketry, etc.). I'd like to either a panhard bar rear end or a triangulated 4-link.

Big plans I know, we're early in the process so we'll see where we end up as I start heading down the path. Looking forward to 'listening' in on other builds and sharing as I go along...

Jack

Welcome to FTE Jack!

Here's one way to post pics.

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like you have some mad skills! Wish I did! Welcome. This site has been indispensable to me. My rebuild would not be coming together without the input of these guys!

Be sure to post pictures and indicate where you are from.

Best,

We once had a Mercedes that had a 4 on the tree, but I have never seen a 5 on the tree. Sounds like you have some serious skills with metal. Good luck with your project, what a birthday present! Great to have a wife that would feed your addiction.

4 on the tree used to be kinda common.. my 63 Datsun 320 pickup had it.. as did the Simca the family had before i was old enough to drive..on the Datsun you pulled out on the shifter then smashed yer knuckles against the dash and down for reverse..i'd think a 5 speed would be doable..

Hi guys. Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll have to sign up for Picassa or something to post pics of the new beast. Below are some pics of my Bronco...

Regarding 5 on the tree, glad to hear some of you think it's doable; gives me hope!!

Welcome to FTE... I also owned a Mercades ('59 190) that was 4 on the column. AC on a Flathead... looking forward to seeing that one too... If you can invision it, and you have mad skilles like it sounds like working with Pro-E you should be able to find out if there is enough room to fit the 5 speed shifter on the tree. Looking forward to the pics and following your build.
