71 F250 CS swapped in a 78 F250 Tilt column....Wiring????

Hey all,

still working through the Project

So I put in a steering column from a 78 F250 for the Tilt feature. Problem is of course the wire connectors are no where near the same.

Anyone done this swap and or can someone point me in the right direction to figure out which wires go where??

Can't help you on your question but how hard was it to swap columns were they a direct swap or some fab work needed? What all needs done in order to use the tilt columns

bummer, I was hoping someone had a quick fix for the wiring

its a straight bolt on EXCEPT.....I had to cut off the plate from the 78 that mounts it to the floor pan as the bolt holes don't line up. Put the one off my 71 and its a perfect match

Good to know I been eying up a tilt column at the junk yard as for the wiring you might be able to find some wiring schematics online telling you what wires go to what

I will see if I can find the color codes. Do a search. Thats where I got the color codes from. I put 1 in my 69 and started putting my Painless harness in. Going to finish it sunday. It comes with the connector for the 73-79 also so its just plug and play for me but I will try to get you the color codes tommorow before we go camping.

I think there was a write up on Fordification that should get you close. It had the diagrams and what wires are for what.

castone did you get both ends of the connector from the 79? Then you could make a plugin. Here are the colors. 79 tilt column. Outer 7 1. Yellow 2.White+Red 3.Green+Orange 4.Orange+Purple 5.Blue 6.Green 7.MT
1-4 inner. Blue+Red acroos from Yellow#1 Then Blue 3. White+Blue 4.Green+White across from MT.
Truck connector. 1.MT across from Yellow 2. White+Red 3.Yellow 4.Green 5.Blue 6.Red+Black 7. MT Inner 4 1.Green+White Across from Red+Black 2.White+Blue 3.Blue 4. MT I hope this helps. If not I cam PM. my cell# That way it will be easyer to explain.

Not shure if you can buy the Late Model Turn Pigtail from Painless. I check mine 4 a part# and no luck.
