88 250 7.5 oil pan removal

So I have a 88 f-250 4x4 7.5L the rear main is leaking and I need to replace it, the question is can I remove the oil pan with the engine in the truck? Chilton says trans needs to be removed and it is a one piece seal but I bought one and it is a 2 piece seal so I think I can drop the pan and replace it any input?

It is a two-piece seal. One-piece seals were never made for the 7.5 from what I have read, though I noticed Rockauto has a listing for one. Not sure if it is correct.

you MIGHT be able to get away with it if you can break lose the motor mounts and the take the bolts out from the tranny cross member.. then just jack it up as far as you can.. i still had to take intake off to get enough room to drop the pan.. if i ever do it again.. i'm just taking the motor out.. may as well have done that the first time instead of the intake.. if you are just replacing the gasket.. and don't care to clean out your pan.. you can actually get it done without doing anything.. its just a b**** and if you have fat hands you're going to need a helper to move that stubborn gasket around the oil pump.. ford made it hard to get on and off.. would be a good idea to swap out oil pumps because they are cheap and its a pain to do should the oil pump go bad after you do all that work once..

In order to pull the pan, you will need to undo the motor mounts. remove fan shroud. Remove TRANSMISSION. remove y-pipe. jack engine up. unbolt pan, unbolt oil pump, then you can get the pan out.

It is NOT a fun job. I did it twice on my 460
