Trick to Removing Fuel Filter

I've been using the 'special' plastic ring tool to try and separate the lines from the filter, but with no joy. I can feel the tool compress the spring(?) on both fittings, but no matter how hard I am able to pull the lines won't come off.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

First make sure you are using the right size. It helps if you push the fuel line against the filter when you install the tool, give the tool a twist as you seat it then holding the tool tight against the fitting pull the line.

I'm using the 5/16 tool. I actually did try the other 2 that came with the set, but they didn't do anything.

I'll try the tricks you recommended in the morning. Thanks.

Sorry about that, I thought after filling it out in the profile the information would show up. The vehicle is a 2000 with the V10.

It probably is, but most guys just look at a persons sig (like my sig has all my stuff listed, mods, etc) or they look for the info in the body of the post itself.

Try twisting the filter while pulling.

Thanks for the all the advice.

I did spin the filter in order to ensure it wasn't frozen. Then pushing the fuel line towards the filter while pressing the tool into the coupling seemed to work. I don't remember, but I'm sure there was twisting and colorful words required to free it up. I was a bit surprised exactly how much fuel was in the filter though.

I did this a couple weeks ago on mine. Same year/engine. I first pulled the cutoff switch connector and started it up to release some pressure. I still got a nice gas-shower from all the fuel coming out. safety glasses are a must.
Didn't have much issue pulling the lines off. I used the small plastic round tools. Worked at first try.

When I change the filter on my Lightning, I pull the fuse for the fuel pumps and then crank the engine. It usually starts then sputters dead. There will always be fuel that pours out, but at least it's not spurting under pressure.
