CALLING ALL 86 FORD RANGERS BUILT BEFORE 09/86
Alright gang,
I am looking for anyone out there that currently drives a Ford Ranger Built up to 09/1986. An 85 will not work. Must be 1986.
Strange question right, well not really if you own one of these trucks.
The 9th month thing is all about brakes with this truck. Our pads and calipers are unique to these few months of manufacturing.
well... if you didnt know that, now you do. IF you do know this and currently own one of these animals, I need your help.
I need a picture of your brakes, namely the disc brake pad clip, the thing that keeps the pads from bouncing around when your not breaking.
I feel like an idiot for saying this, but I cant for the life of me figure out how this stupid little clip is mounted.
or for that matter wether or not the clip is actually the same as other rangers of this generation as the parts people have been telling me.
HELP!

The clips from 83-88 Models are mostly the same. I have a NEW set of pads with clips on em I will sell for $20 shipped, set of used calipers for $25 shipped, and set of the front rotors for $30 shipped. Sale it all together as a package deal for $60 shipped. Pads were used for 200 miles but you cant tell they were even used. I accept paypal and can ship same day as payment is made. I also have other 83-88 ranger parts as for trucks to part out and parts to sale. Open to trades as well. if interested, PM me a address to ship to.

ok. if you notice it has a round shape to it that makes a spring towards the bottom.with the pad faceing the rotor on the inside, put the clip on the lower part of the pad with the round part faceing away from the rotor.push the pad back on to the spindle and that clip will hold the pad were it seats in the spindle and against the rotor. hope this helps, i just did my 86 sunday. ( no charge ) just had to do it.
How about a picture for good measure? You know they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

well gang,
I finially got around to trying to fix this issue.
1949f1, Your info told me I had intalled the spring/keeper correctly.
I found i was able to install two clips to hold the pad into the holder. One on the top of the pad and another at the bottom of the pad. Not sure if It originally came with two per caliper or if mine is just so special that it needed two.
The pads I bought only came with one set of clips, so I was glad that I purchased an extra set of clips.
My pads made a lot of clanking around noise previously, hopefully this will fix my issue.

I had one clip previously installed (correctly) and the pad jumped around like a mexican jumping bean.
I was able to get the two clips in per side really easy. I havent been able to test drive it yet due to a dead battery, but I will let you know how I made out when I get the new battery installed.
