Hello all,
I gots a 2001 Ford Expedition and I am getting ready to do brakes on my truck, It has 123,000 on it. I drive a mix of highway, and city. I am looking for some better performance then stock replacements. I have a slight budget so I am not looking to go ALL OUT. I am doing rotors and pads all around. I was looking into getting drilled and slotted rotors and i am not sure what type of pads would be the best for my commute. Any suggestions???
Also these are the stock calipers I have on there now, As much as i would like aftermarket ones that is a little pricey. I noticed that my truck pulls to the right when I break hard. I was told by someone that that means you gotta bad caliper. Same thing happend to my moms exploder, and they just cleaned it out. Without taking it to the dealer is there a way to figure out if its going bad or needs to be cleaned, or am I just crazy and something else is wrong???
Any help would be much appreciated, I plan on doing the breaks in april some time, or when ever it warms up.
When I replaced my brakes on my truck I used regular gold series rotors and ceramic pads. I prefer Pro Stop brand pads, they are a little more than the regular ones but they are really nice. As for the pulling you said, I would check and clean all the calipers and the slides as well as grease all the contact points to minimize the friction.
I just did a 4-wheel brake job on my 03. Ordered dimpled and slotted rotors from BrakePerformance.com. Free standard semi-metallic pads with rotor purchase and $10 off each rotor set for phone-in orders. I found that I could get pads cheaper else where and when I told them that, they upgraded me to the performance semi-metallics at no charge. I haven't driven the truck much, so I can't really comment on the performance.
As for the pull that you have, if it pulls when you brake, then chances are good it's the opposite side caliper that is having problems. So, since yours pulls to the right, it's probably your left caliper that is having a problem.
