Price check and KBB??? Purchase imminent

I can get a blk XLT Scap for 10,000 under MSRP. Seems like a very good deal. Ecept, KBB and Edmunds say my 2011 Scab F250 Lariat trade-in is 34-35,000 and one offers 30,000 while the other offers 32,000 - after me working for it. Is KBB/edmunds not a valid source for car value anymore???? Or should I continue to shop around. Since I am losing my *** on the trade-in I fugured an xlt may be wise vs another Lariat which is 8300 under invoice but $ $7700 more than the xlt. Thoughts and opinins please. This is a 5.0. Boy do I like the ride vs my hop-shimmy-and-shake, mirrors wider than the lane F250!!!!!!!! The Lariat is everything I want including a moon roof but, $36,769 - GREAT DEAL but $7672 more than an xlt w/ convenience and chrome pkg. I could live with the XLT for the 29,000 quote though. So, am I not going to get KBB. I traded 4 family members vehichles in w/i the past two years and always got excellent KBB.
Appreciate any advise guys.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but no dealer wants to have a 3/4 gas truck sitting on their lot with gas prices as high as they are. IMO your truck is beautiful, and I would keep it especially if there is nothing wrong with it. I know that isn't what you wanted to hear, but KBB is pretty much only close when the economy is doing reasonably well. If things are still bad and gas is high, expect economy car values to be higher than KBB and anything that is a gas guzzler should expect to be much lower.

There was a time not long ago when big V8 SUV's were worth gold and you couldn't give an economy car away but that's not the case in this day & age.

the dealer has to make money somehow, they can't do $10k off sticker for the new truck and also give you a super high trade-in price at the same time.

Your Superduty is one pretty truck! You could buy a bunch of gas for the hit you'll take. I got my XLT for around 29K which was about 8K under MSRP. With that kind of a deal, you have some room to absorb the hit you'll take and still not go over the loan value of the truck. It comes down to how bad you want it.

Well, you guys are correct. I paid net 42,000 for my F250 and got 32,000 2 years later after several hours of neg - they started at 28,000. Got 8,000 off MSRP of an FX150 exactly what I wanted. F250s are like the plague right now. They had 4 F250 new plow trucks sitting that they coudn't sell. So, I figured I would have to walk away once again. But, after several hours, and verified offers from other dealers on new vehichles, and my trade #s, kind of verified, I got the best deal I possibly could. I figured they would try to meet me half way at 31,000 on my trade but, low and behold, they came back with 32,000. Quite suprised actually. I spent several hours having me sit while this kid went back and forth and me sitting there. Overall, I am quite pleased!!! Don't try to trade an F250 in these days is all I can say.

For the condition of my previous 03 Expedition KBB suggested $5,000 and that is exactly what the dealer offered me. I was just happy they didn't look at it any closer.

Yes that is a beautiful 250 you have there. I love that color, and I admired your sig pic whenever I would see you post up here. Have you decided to move forward and trade for the 150 then? I got 16,400 for the 6.0 F250 King Ranch CC in my garage, with 144kish miles on it. One dealer offered me high 11s and insulted me by saying I wouldn't get any more for it than that. I said watch me, I'll get 16k for it no problem. Why dealers gotta be jerks? And they had the truck I wanted, instead I had to drive 30+ miles to buy it somewhere else. Good luck, but if it doesn't work out you still have a beautiful truck! Wanna trade?

Hey have you thought about selling your truck to a private party. You would get a poop load more for it. Think about it this way, Most people use kbb and edmonds before they buy a car. So, even If you sell it for what kbb or edmonds suggests as a trade in value ($35k) vs the retail value (which is probably significantly more), than you are getting a few thousand more than the trade in and the person you are selling it to will think they are getting one hell of a deal. I doubt you will have to sell it that low. You could probably list it under KBB private party value buy a few thousand, haggle a few thousand more, and probably still sell it for more than the $35k. Just a thought. It's a pain in the ars, but if i was possibly going to gain a few k, then i would do it. Then you go in and put money you sold your truck as a down payment (minus what you had to pay the truck off with if any)

Hope this helps

Eric
