Fuel Pump Alternative?

Just bought an AIRTEX fuel pump for my 60 ford 292 Y-Block...it pumps like crap...decided to take it off to see something was wrong with it and found aluminum shavings inside one the ports, took the canister off and fuel filter inside doesnt want to stay on, the canister gasket is so swelled that you cant even put the canister back on.. Is there another mechanical pump that I can use that is better quilty....Right know Im headed towards a Carter elec. ....I will never by AIRTEX pumps again

Thanks Mark

I'm using one of those Carter inline electric fuel pumps, works great. You can get a block off plate for your mechanical one from NAPA or O'Reily's in the Mexican isle, they're like $8.

I think any pump for an FE block will work. I just swapped out mine. The replacement I got was for an 80-83 302.

Where are you pulling power from? Also, did you have to wire in a relay, or just connect straight to a keyed power source?

I have an aftermarket wiring harness that already had a fuel pump line. If you're doing it from scratch then I'd probably use a relay triggered off a keyed power wire.
