Removed my Resonator today, 5.0L

So I removed my resonator today and I'm not sure if I like it. The truck is louder for sure. Idle sounds the same, as does it from 1K-2.5K at 3K RPM you start to hear the increase in sound over stock. The problem at least in my opinion is that I like Bassier sounding exhausts from V8's. The truck still has that familiar V8 rumble but it's now at a slightly higher pitch if that makes any sense? There is no drone at highway speeds and only slighly under 1/2 to moderate throttle inputs.

I guess I sort of miss the deeper growl that the resonator gives the truck when accelerating, all I did was in theory give my truck a louder and more raspy sound which is great if you like that. Good thing it only cost me $40 at the the local muffler shop. Think I'm going to order the Raptor resonator and reinstall it. The Raptor resonator is 1/2 the size of the 5.0L/ 3.5L unit so perhaps I can gain the deeper sound back with a bit more of a performance sound going that route.

Anyway the main purpose of this post was to show you guys what the resonator looks like inside nothing really more than that. I thought there would be louvers lining the inside of the resonator but it's just perforated with little holes.

I did the same thing on my FX4 5.0L...Except when I removed the resonater I replaced the factory muffler with a Flowmaster 10 Series, Its very deep and VERY loud.

I would suggjest an aftermarket muffler system to counter act the higher pitched exhaust note. It doesn't have to be a 10 series Flowmaster (They are the loudest pipe the company offers) You could find a quiter but still louder than factory exhaust muffler and replace the OEM muffler with it, I have no doubt you would see increased bass from that.

I've always removed the muffler and left the resonator.

more often than not, you get that very deep tone and considerably more volume. Most times it is pretty loud while accelerating, but mellows out at cruise.

I've always preferred the sound of a straight through type muffler, so after seeing your pics it makes sense why i've always been happy with the sound.

just another approach.

I got rid of the muffler and resonator by unbolting them from the flange after the cats and replaced it with 3" straight pipe till the first hanger then bent it at a 45* so it comes out in front of the rear tire. but behind the rear doors. sounds awesome but very hard to keep quiet when you want it to be. lucky for me I almost never want it quiet. If you do this you will get a bit of drone in the cab and it gets really loud when the rear windows are down. but it gets the attention of everyone

Sounds like it turned out the way you wanted it to. Did you add a tip too or just leave the raw pipe? Is the sound deep or is it raspy? All of the you tube vids I've seen with 5L F-150's that are straight piped seem to have a high pitched raspy note... At one point I was thinking about doing a straight pipe like you or Borla muffler and dumping it with a turn down in front of the axle. I'm actuall curious what the 5L sounds like with just the resonator and the rest straight?
