Stacks with a cap!

Alrighty guys, so I just picked up a cap for my truck for $40 delivered to my place. So I am almost getting it for free. I use my Ford pretty much only as a truck to tow my Jeep to wheeling events all over New England.

A queen size mattress fits in between the wheel wells perfectly on that truck and now I gotta figure out how to make the cap work with the stacks. I know some of you may think this is dumb! But I wanna keep the stacks... simple as that.

I was thinking of just cutting the holes the exact size so its a tight squeeze over the stacks? The cap is fiberglass but that may scratch the crap out of the stacks. Has anyone seen this done before? Or put some thought into it as well?

gonna have to watch exhaust temps...I'd imagine the fibreglass could melt/catch fire...maybe a fire-proof gasket betwixt the cap and stacks???...gasket would also keep the weather out...just my thoughts..

Yeah I was thinking something like a gasket.. but I guess Ive just never seen a fireproof, meltproof gasket that goes around an exhaust etc like that... I suppose boats probably use them for where the exhaust exits out the back?

Yep, I found a couple of pics of people doing it. I wonder if header wrap would work. I know the stacks dont get nearly as hot as headers but idk how that stuff holds up against water etc.

How do you plan to keep the stacks from igniting the mattress?

I'll probably use an air mattress so when it wont be blown up till I get there. BUT I have just done some thinking and I have a buddy who will buy my stacks and the kit for $100 less then I paid for it all. So Im just going to do duels diagonally out the back and run the cap.

That's probably the cleanest and easiest approach!

What about sealing the stacks independantly from the cap? Use a short bed cap and bring whatever sealing material out to it. Then you can open and close without bothering stacks or seal.

I think you are better off not cutting into the cap. You will lose the biggest benefit of a topper - a sealed bed area.

Just a thought... What about putting the stacks off to the side of your truck like you would for a flat bed.
