Roaring Sound

Roaring Sound
I hope someone can give me a anwser to my problem! I have a 1997 Ford F150 manual 4wd shift on the floor, and its a manual 5 speed overdrive. Once in a while it will make a horrible grinding or roaring sound and it feels as if its draging or being held back. The 4x4 light will come on, once I come to a stop it will stop roaring and will drive fine again, the 4x4 light stays on. It doesnt seem to matter what seed Im going when it does this, because it has done it in lower gears as well as highway speeds. The 4x4 light stays on the majority of the time, its when it goes off that shortly after it starts roaring. Ive changed the fluid in the transfer case as well as the transmission, my next step is to change the fluid in the front and rear differentials. I hope this will fix it, but not very optimistic.

I thought we went thru this a week ago and decided that it probably has an internal problem in the transfer case.. noisy... light stays on....etc.. why would the 4 x 4 light be on unless something inside is not aligned ?

Yea, we did, but I'm hoping for a simpler solution, I also think I should check the vacuum lines, fuses/relays. I'm poor and don't have a lot of time to fix it myself. I guess what it boils down to is weather or not it will be cheaper to fix if it is internal, or just totally disconnect 4x4
