Fuel pump replacement through floor
#16
From what I can gather most pumps out there now are airtex. Even ford..
The box I got said carter on top. Federal mougal also. Everyone is in bed with airtex.
I will keep it as a spare for my other two vans but I still need a better pump for my nice van...I'm afraid motorcraft is airtex also.

nls Ford parts
FYI I have a friend a in Brazil who can get me nls Ford parts; He works in a Ford distributor. If you read some of the stickers in your Aerostar, many parts say "Made in Brazil". I just purchased the Brazilian version of the High Mounted Stop Lamp which is a lot better quality than the piece of junk made by "Truck-Lites" in the USA.
if someone has the Fuel Pump original part number as it relates to the Aerostar, I can find out if still available there and the price. But let me warn you that mailing costs from Brazil to USA are not cheap.
Being an old car collector, I have learned that sometimes you have to bite the bullet and pay the price to get original parts for old cars, (ask me how I know), I've had to order Jaguar parts from Australia and UK. The Aerostar is a collector van no matter what anyone says.
I've been following this thread and it amazes me that Ford would stop supplying a part as important as a Fuel Pump for the Aerostar. But the old saying "seek and ye shall find" holds true no matter the age of the car, parts are available, maybe not in the USA, but they are somewhere else.

I'm not sure where your vans are from, no parts in mine say they are made in Brazil. Everything I can see is made in USA, Canada, Mexico, France, and Germany. Nothing from Brazil that I have seen. Most (but not all) the stuff Ford makes in Brazil is for sale to South American models. The Aerostar was never built outside the US, and realistically, few were sold outside North America. I would think most if not all the Brazilian made parts are replacements that have been installed after the van was built. A large part of the problem is the high cost of importing goods into the US from South American companies.

So I got in the new pump and I also put in a new regulator. I took it out to check for a vacuum leak which it didn't seem to have but now after changing it I don't go to defrost anymore on hills. Go figure.. The van starts almost perfect on a heat soak condition so I'm pleased with the outcome. I only paid 60.00 for the pump so I have no complaints since they go for $120.00. If you get one of these pumps you have to get the filter to go with it.
I eliminated the damper and used the hose supplied with the pump. Just got back from a 1000 mile trip to boston and Ct..All went well van ran like new got over 20 mpg.

It sounds like you may very well have had a vacuum leak in the old regulator, or the old fuel system was working so poorly that you were forced to hold the throttle open long enough that it drained all the vacuum reservoir. Either way, glad it's working for you.
It's been a long time since I had to fight the fuel pump in my van, so I forgot: what is this damper that you're referring to?

Its a bulb looking thing right above the fuel pump...Supposed to even out pulses and noise..This pump is way quiet. Almost can't hear it. I changed the pump cause it would start really hard after hot soak...!/2 way up mt washington I stopped to look around and when I went to start the van it wouldn't start. Took about a couple of minutes. The pump wouldn't prime it was really noisey..When it started it barely ran for 30 seconds then it was fine so I figured time for a pump..
